Anna Halkia has made a name for herself in Nemea, the largest wine-producing region in Greece. Home to the Agiorgitiko grape, which is the most widely planted red grape in Greece, Nemea provides the perfect environment for Anna's vineyards.

Growing up in Australia with her immigrant parents, Anna eventually returned to Nemea as an adult to start a family with her husband. In the early 2000s, she set up a basic winemaking facility in the back of her house, where her family's vineyards are located. Due to the lack of investment, Anna was forced to rely on basic technology and natural winemaking methods, such as wild fermentation and lo-fi techniques. This decision ultimately proved successful, as Anna's wines quickly gained a following due to their raw expression of the organic fruit.

Today, she continues to produce small-batch wines made from Agiorgitiko, Assyrtiko, and Roditis grapes using the same methods she was forced to adopt, which have helped her wines stand out from the norm.

One of Anna's standout wines is the Halkia red, a fun and rustic wine that boasts an impenetrable deep red color and notes of black fruit, rusk bread, and umami. Despite its dark hue, the wine is juicy and quaffable, thanks to its velvety tannins. If you're a fan of unique, organic wines, be sure to try Anna Halkia's offerings.
