Pheasant’s Tears

Poliphonia

Region: Kakheti, Georgia

Vintage: 2019

Grapes: Chinuri, Rkatsiteli, & many others

Color: Red

During the time of Communism in Georgia, the government imposed strict regulations on grape cultivation, allowing only a select few grapes with high yields to be grown. Sadly, this meant that over 500 native grape varieties were neglected and forgotten. However, following the collapse of Communism, three producers were tasked with preserving these unique and indigenous grapes by cultivating them from seed.

Fast forward to today, and the Pheasant's Tears library vineyard boasts an impressive collection of over 400 different grape varietals, all used to create each year's one-of-a-kind blend. This vintage is a tantalizing mix of more than 100 red and white grapes, bursting with wild and delicious flavors of tangy citrus and deep black cherry notes with a hint of leather and cola. This wine is a perfect complement to a fried chicken sandwich.
